Hello Folks,
Good day!
I hope everybody is doing fabulous. Do you have any guess around which topic my second blog might be. Yest its about travel with bit a mix of friendship. Before I take you with me, I would like to let you know that why I traveled to Tanjore (around places).
Flash back...
I would like to travel and read a lot. I am not sure from where I got this habit. I had a chance of reading a history novel written by Balakumaran named Gangai konda cholan (which has 5 parts). I made use of my travelling time to office to read this book, while others in the same medium of transport will work on their laptop, busy on mobile by playing games or chat.
Noises around me on the medium will try to disturb me, it may happen for few seconds when I opened the book. I can't even figure out how fast I have reached the destination. Inspired with the narration of Balakumaran how he has mixed the culture, braveness, war ethics and techniques of Tamilians . I was eagerly waiting for the time when it will allow me to visit Gangai knoda cholapuram temple. I got to know that Great king Rajendra got inspiration of building this temple from his father Raja Rajan. So I planned to have a visit to these temples.
Back to journey...
We (Karthick, Sathish and me) have booked a bus to Tanjore from Bangalore the pickup time was around 10:45 PM. Pick up time was 15 minutes walk-able from my room. We started around 10:30 PM and got a call from the transport saying our bus has arrived and they are waiting us. As expected we are late even this time and started running to catch the bus. Boarded in to the bus around 10.45.
Note: We started on Friday, booked return ticket on Sunday and without any prior planning.
Reached Tanjore by Saturday morning 6.30 AM and we had a little quarrel about the plan, at last came to conclusion that we are heading toward Poompuhar. Reached Puhar arround 12:30 had some time in sea shore by enjoying the view. We played in the water for 2 hours and started to move away from sea shore. Visited the museum near by and Silappathikara Art Gallery.
Had a lunch and started our journey towards Gangai knoda cholapuram. By 5:45 PM and admired in the beauty of temple and environment for 2 hours. We had a little chat about the history which we read from novel. Started back to Tanjore by 8:00 PM and reached around 12:15 AM. Then we started searching for dinner unfortunately didn't find anything for dinner. We noticed a small shop that is still opened and completed our dinner. Went for a normal hotel and booked a room for a day.
Journey on Sunday...
My friends struggled to wake me up as they do in other days finally they made it around 7:00 AM. Then we went back to our drawing board and came up with a plan to visit "The Grand Anicut" (Kallanai) first. We reached kallanai around 10:45 AM gone through the Mandabam that has been built and explained about the achievements of him. How he created a new river by building the grant anicut. How they built the dam was superb plan, I am not sure about this modern days engineer's will be able to build this. It crossed over 1000 yers but still stands without any issues.
We wished to have a lunch in Tanjore because I am fond of the name (Sooru udaitha Thanjai) and wanted to taste the food there. We inquired about the reputed hotel which in Tanjore and had a good lunch. We reached Tanjore back by 2:30 PM and visited to the Palace and spent sometime (because we felt evening is the best time to visit "Big Temple") after palace visit. Finally now the time has decided to take us to the Tanjore Big Temple. I know that I have already visited but still I felt excited. We started walking after a lunch and reached Big temple by 5:30 PM by walk from palace.
Fortunately the day was Prothosam so we found there is huge number of people. Enjoyed the temple design by following a guide who was explaining about the architect, with a bit of history. Took some lifetime photographs in our mobiles. Came out of the temple with a wish I have to comeback to this temple again in a short time. We bought a Tanjore famous dancing doll and started back to the hotel to pack the luggage around 8:45 PM and our bus tim was 9:45 PM.
Again the recap of Friday happened on Sunday we rushed to hotel packed everything and ensured that we have left anything there. Finally boarded in to the bus by 9:50 PM. Reached Bangalore around Monday morning 6:30 AM.
This was the first time in my life over the weekend I have traveled more than 1000 KMs without feeling any tired during the travelling.
